Overland | Season 16 | Episode 1 | At the Birthplace of the Sun
La Paz looks like an intricate mass of buildings within a bottleneck. It is mainly inhabited by Quechua and Aymara Indios, and features the most traditional craftsmanship, highly coloured markets and a daily guile to survive. The cableways move citizens from the low city at an altitude of 3600 metres to El Alto at 4200 metres, the highest neighbourhood: from here the view on the Illimani, which stands at more than 6000 metres, is breath-taking. After the visit to the Valle de la Luna and the Valle de Las Animas, we reach Lake Titicaca and the Isla del Sol, the sacred place where legend has it that the Inti God began Inca history.
