Overland | Season 16 | Episode 4 | Biking on the Death Road
The journey continues in the Amazon area of Bolivia. With the help of the authorities we enter the coca plantations: in Bolivia the chewing of coca leaves is legal, and is very different from the refined and illegal version, cocaine. Projects to protect the flora and fauna are a tribute to the Country, as are the projects for reforestation, which is needed after the uncontrolled deforestation by peasants and breeders. We begin an electrifying descent along the Camino de la Muerte, which earned its name because of the countless deaths that take place here every year. The rainy weather does not help our journey and some problems with the road make it difficult to reach the pampas, but the navigation along a river full of animals is a reward for our efforts.
