Chinese Merganser
A survivor from the third Ice Age some 10 million years ago, the Chinese merganser is the world's oldest species of wild duck. Despite having survived when many other species did not, the merganser is now facing the threats of global warming and human encroachment. It is estimated that only 1,000 mating pairs remain in the wild. This film follows the merganser as it migrates from the winding rivers of Southern China to the majestic mountains in the Northeast. Rare footage of the lifecycle of this disappearing bird is shown alongside stunning panoramic images of China's wilderness.
