Overland | Season 14 | Episode 3 – Azerbaijan 1
One of the Countries that most clearly highlights the contrast between Asia and Europe: Azerbaijan, which is crossed by the ancient Silk Road, has always been an important trading crossroads between the West and East. Our journey will be exploring the most oriental soul of the Caucasus as we travel along the chain of the Greater Caucasus and its typical villages, where time seems to be standing still for hundreds of years ago, with markets, beautiful buildings and caravanserai. The old city of Baku is surrounded by impressive skyscrapers but hosts a real open-air treasure. Our route will then be taking us south, across the semi-desert shores of the Caspian Sea, amongst mud volcanoes through to the beautiful Talish Mountains that stand between Azerbaijan and Iran.
