The journey continues in surprisingly fascinating landscapes through to the ruins of Quillarumiyoc, one of the last archaeological and historic discoveries in Peru. In Ayacucho, where until a few decades ago the terrorist group Sendero Luminoso was based, some touching testimonies tell us about sad period in modern Peruvian history. Our story has its high point in the Sanctuary of Memory, where mass graves were found. Once we pass Cerro de Pasco, which is now an open-air mine because of the massive environmental pollution in the area, and the Cordillera Blanca, we reach the city of Huaraz, alongside the highest and most famous mountains of Peru: Huascarán and Huandoy.
